Year in Color

Overview

Year in Color is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your mood journal data is stored locally in your browser by default, and no account is required to use the app. We collect minimal data and never sell your personal information.

Data We Collect

Mood journal data (local storage): When you use Year in Color without an account, all your mood entries, notes, and settings are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB and localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to enable cloud sync.

Mood journal data (cloud sync): If you create a free account, your mood entries are synced to our cloud database (powered by Supabase) so you can access them across devices. This data is tied to your account and stored securely. You can delete your account and associated data at any time.

Basic analytics: We collect anonymous page view data (page visited, referrer URL) to understand how our site is used. This data does not include personal identifiers and is not linked to your mood journal entries.

Cookies and Advertising

Year in Color uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing activity. You may opt out of third-party cookies for advertising purposes by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

How We Use Your Data

• To provide the mood tracking and journaling functionality you use
• To sync your data across devices if you opt into cloud backup
• To understand site usage through anonymous analytics
• To display relevant advertisements that support the free service

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your mood journal data with third parties. The only third-party services we use are:

• Supabase — for cloud data storage and authentication (only if you create an account)
• Google AdSense — for displaying advertisements
• Google Fonts — for web typography

Data Security

Cloud-synced data is protected by Supabase's security infrastructure, including row-level security policies and encrypted connections. Local data is protected by your browser's built-in security mechanisms.

Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

• Export: You can export your complete mood history as a JSON file at any time from the app's settings menu
• Delete: You can clear your local data through your browser settings, or delete your cloud account and all associated data
• Portability: Your exported data is in a standard format you can use however you choose

Children's Privacy

Year in Color is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
